About the Bicycle Transportation Committee
This committee (ANF20) is concerned with all aspects of bicycling, bicyclists, behaviors of other road users interacting with bicyclists, as well as policies and criteria for facilities to assure safe, secure, comfortable, convenient, and efficient travel for bicyclists. The committee aims to integrate bicycling into multimodal transportation systems, and broader transportation and land use planning, policy, and engineering.
This Committee is chaired by Dr. Ralph Buehler (email@example.com) of Virginia Tech in Alexandria, VA. Mr. Jamie Parks, City of Oakland, serves as the committee's vice-chair.
The Bicycle Transportation Committee has three subcommittees and works through four joint subcommittees:
|Research Subcommittee||The Research Subcommittee is responsible for developing Research Needs Statements, identifying ideas for Synthesis and IDEA topics, developing a list of research ideas for students, identifying potential funding sources, working to get research priorities funded, and tracking research activities in other TRB committees, federal agencies, and other organizations and identifying opportunities for inclusion of bicycle issues.||Jamie Parks, Rebecca Sanders and Krista Nordback|
|Paper and Program Subcommittee||The Paper/Program Subcommittee is responsible for the paper review process and developing the bicycle program at the Annual Meeting. The subcommittee also develops calls for papers.||Eva Heinen and Brian H Y Lee|
|Membership and Communications Subcommittee||The Membership & Communications Subcommittee reviews and makes recommendations for new members and emeritus membership, develops content for committee’s web site, and identifies additional ways to keep members of the transportation community apprised of bicycle research.||Glen Koorey and Tara Goddard|
|Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Analysis Joint Subcommittee||To identify and advance research related to safety and/or bicycle and pedestrian crashes||Shane Turner|
|Bicycle and Pedestrian Data Joint Subcommittee||To develop standardized national data structures that incorporate non-motorized users||Liz Stolz|
